The why of it!
If you are here, you are looking to improve your overall health and well-being. If you are here, you realize that feeling less than, both physically and mentally, is not normal. If you are here, you have hit a wall in your life that mainstream “solutions” have failed to remedy, time and time, again. If you are here, you are like me, a person, a woman and a parent who is no longer willing to accept the status quo of our health system.
My journey down the road to better living began several years ago, when I started to realize that my typically sharp mind and motivated attitude were gradually becoming foggy and complacent. Like many people in their early forties, I thought, “This must be what happens when you age.”
Shortly following this realization, our family headed into some rough water. Our son, who was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at age 13, started having flare-ups that became increasingly more and more severe over the next few years. Another son started struggling with addiction that followed him throughout his adolescence. Yet the third started exhibiting behaviors that affected his level of motivation and social interests. Round this story out with my husband, who remains challenged, even today, with sleep quality problems that began at age 18 and progressively worsened in the years since. I had taken such care (or so I thought) to set a safe, healthy and well-rounded example for my family.
I. HIT. A. WALL.
I was taking three prescription medications related to anxiety and adult onset ADHD; which by the way, I had no symptoms of until recent years. My husband and sons were getting worse, instead of better regardless of mainstream interventions. I took matters into my own hands and dove into everything the internet had to offer. The fix had to start with me. If I couldn’t get myself together, how could I help my family?
Over the next three years, I researched emotional intelligence, life coaching, yoga and meditation, efficacy of various prescription drugs, the impact of exercise on not only the body, but the brain as well, naturopathic remedies for depression, ADHD, brain fog, sleep quality, anxiety, addiction, the influence of diet and nutrition on health, and the list goes on.
My conclusion?
There is no one, single answer, no magic pill, so to speak. It has taken the accumulation of many, many negative factors to get us this unhealthy, as a society. It takes not only the undoing of these negative factors, but the introduction and sustained use of simple and holistic practices to make us healthy again. It also takes critical thinking and a willingness to share what we learn together. The good news is it is not hard! In fact, it is much easier than you think. Having the right support structure is key and this is what I am hoping this website will be for you. All that I know, and will learn, is yours for the taking and I hope you will do the same.
